Fall Worship Series - Insufficient Heroes

One of the most interesting (and exciting) facts about the leaders in the Bible is that they mostly deserve no right to be called a "leader." They are cowardly. They are sinful. They are mistaken, afraid, and they fall short. But God uses them in a great way. Don't you want to know how and why? Join us in our six-week study of the Book of Judges. It's a great book to read in times like this!

September 1, 2024 - "Othniel"

Holy Communion is celebrated during the service

The identity of the very first judge in the Bible is extremely insignificant. Ironically, that seems to be the reason God called Othniel in such a chaotic time as the generation of Judges. It is in our weakness, God stands strong.

September 8, 2024 - “Ehud”

Ehud has nothing to remember, but he had a very unique trait—he was left-handed. And this one character, which is badly humiliated by the community, becomes a seed for Ehud’s incredible accomplishment.

September 15, 2024 - “Deborah”

Good leaders are those who impact others to do the same. Deborah’s leadership and the story of Barak, who was influenced by her integrity teach us about how faithful leadership can help the community move forward.

September 22, 2024 - “Gideon”

The story of Gideon as a whole is a story of a courageous leader. God’s call on his life’s mission was beyond reckless, but he didn’t mind fighting an army only with 300 fellow soldiers. But the Bible says he was afraid of doing that. Faith is found where courage and fear encounter.

September 29, 2024 - “Jephthah”

In the Bible, there are several stories that are nearly impossible for us to comprehend or justify. We find it extremely strange, but is it really? Perhaps such a character makes the story of the Bible much more relevant to our stories of everyday. Life is often hard to understand. Ironically that opens up a space for faith.

October 6, 2024 - “Samson”

Holy Communion is celebrated during the service

Samson’s story proves to us that strength does not necessarily mean the same thing with capability. At times strength can be the soil/seed of our foolishness. The good news is that this soil can be repurposed with a simple tweak. And the fertilizer is our attention.
