Lenten Series

Lenten Series - 7 Devos from the Cross

When Jesus was on the cross, he spoke seven times, according to the Bible. Every word was his last will, and thus, contains the essence of his teachings and messages. Join us this Lent as we explore Jesus' final words. Old Bridge invites all to walk this Lenten journey with meaningful devotionals from Jesus on the cross. Please note that in order to thoroughly navigate all seven sentences, we are starting the series a week prior to Lent, starting March 2.

March 2 - “Father, Forgive Them”

Holy Communion will be offered during the service

Forgiveness is hard. It is not only difficult but beyond our human capacity. But the first word from Jesus on the cross is for us to forgive. When the command is not in our control, we know what to do. We pray.

March 5 (Ash Wednesday)

Join us at 7:00 pm for a worship experience with the imposition of ashes.

March 9 - “Today You Will Be with Me”

When Jesus said, “You will be in paradise,” he also said it is today. People live as if today is only a preparation for heavenly tomorrow, but Jesus’ invitation is for today. We can choose where to live, today.

March 16 - “Woman, Here Is Your Son”

When Jesus introduced his beloved disciple to his mother Mary, he called the disciple as Mary’s son. Faith is not just a motto. It is commitment to love and care, and that creates another kind of a family.

March 23 - “Eloi, Eloi, Lema Sabachthani?”

Jesus lived in a body that is fully human. His suffering was real, and his words reflect it. “Why have you forsaken me?” His exclamation is actually a quote from the Hebrew Bible. But not everyone heard it.

March 30 - “I Thirst”

Thirst is a natural reaction. All living things thirst. Physically yes, and spiritually, too. The question is not whether we thirst. It’s about where we find the source to quench it.

April 6 - “It Is Finished”

Holy Communion will be offered during the service

When Jesus said “It is finished,” it’s not just saying Jesus is done, but ‘our’ part has started. And our job is not only about the start, but how we keep it up and how we finish, also.

April 13 (Palm Sunday) - “I Commend My Spirit”

Kids are invited for a palm procession in the beginning of the service

Commending requires faith. With that trust, we can face tomorrow. In a world where everyone is only caring about how to live well, Jesus’ teaching is perhaps about how to die well.
